General Information

Sick and Accident Benefits: In order to receive any S&A Benefits, you must have worked at least 6 months. In your contract book, S&A benefits starts on page 80.

Paid Holidays: New Years Day, 8 hour day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day,  Thanksgiving Day and Day After, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and In honor of John L. Lewis, the employee’s Birthday

If a holiday is on Sunday, it is celebrated on the following Monday. The Saturday prior to the holiday is an optional work day.  In order to work any holiday or optional day, you must sign up to work.

Birthday holiday: If your birthday is on a Sunday, and you are not scheduled to work, you can designate another day as your birthday and receive triple time for hours worked on that day.

Graduated Vacation Days  Start earning after 6 years of employment and one day each year to a maximum of 14 days.

Floating Vacation Days: Four days per year, based on previous years employment.

Personal and Sick Days: Start accumulating after you have been employed a full year and what you have left does not count. Example: You start in October 2009, you will have five PSD days January of 2011. One full year. This is based on an arbitrator’s decision.

Dues: Dues for active employees are three times the lowest hourly rate. Dues for retirees is $15.00 and inactive off is $2.00 monthly.

Initiation fees are $200.00 one time, unless you are in arrears in dues and have received a letter from the financial secretary to pay them and failure to pay. When you return to work, you will be accessed the initiation fee.

Address changes: If your address, phone, or your email address changes, please contact the financial secretary.

Overtime: Overtime is not guaranteed. The company can stop it at any time. Don’t put yourself in a bind by counting on it to pay bills.

This union has approximately 350 arbitration settlements that we have to live by and some of them basically changed the contract.
